One of the most beautiful and hardest climbs ever done! Highly recommended! From Goldau, you initially climb through a beautiful Alpine meadow. After about 5 km you enter the forest. From here, no car traffic is allowed and it is mouse-quiet. After you pass the little train station of Fruttli, you slowly return to an open area. From here on it really goes uphill and the surface becomes more gravelly. Great to do with a gravel or mountain bike, but not recommended for road cyclists. At Rigi-Staffel train station you think you have arrived, but appearances are deceiving, you still have to climb another kilometre on a steep and very bad path. Once at the top (near the transmitter mast), the view is amazing!!! You can also get something to eat and drink if you like. A wonderful climb for a mountain or gravel bike! Highly recommended ...

Great, tough climb. My favourite in Switzerland, as the view from the top is wonderful, there's almost no traffic, and it's a challenge. Road surface is dodgy, especially in the upper half, and around Staffel. Be careful on the descent.
