Short climb that opens phenomenally punchy! If you are approaching from Oaker Bank, it is advisable to bring as much speed as possible at the foot of this punchy pustule: after the short left-right turn sequence, the gradient immediately peaks at 15%. My Garmin peaked at a whopping 19%! Hopefully you switched to your lighter gear quickly enough here, if not they will hear your transmission creaking all the way to Harrogate....

After the punchy opener, the gradient stagnates towards the 9% and the key is to push as many Watts as possible while standing (unless you've run out of gravy in your legs, in which case there's nothing you can do but stay in the saddle). As you grind down the altimeters it flattens out more and more, until you hit a pleasant spur.

The slope is famous from the 2019 UCI road cycling world championships at Harrogate. The riders did ride down this slope all the time. After all, the course they had to prepare was tough enough....

As far as I am concerned, an absolute must if you are in the area!
