A long and quite tiring climb.
From Tencin to Theys there are no steep climbs.
The part from Theys to the col des Ayes is quite difficult.
After the col des Ayes long straight lines on a wide road, I found this part very hard on the morale especially as there is not much to see.
I advise during the descent to turn left at the pass of Ayes then just before the Adrets to take the small road on the right direction of Hurtières, the descent on Tencin by this small road is magnificent.

This climb is one of the steepest in the Grenoble area, competing with the two climbs to Chamrousse in the same Belledonne massif, the Charmant Som in the Chartreuse and the Source de la Molière in the Vercors. Apart from its length, it is not particularly difficult (only the sector between the picturesque village of Theys and the col des Ayes is really steep). Beautiful views gradually emerge over the valley until the Ayes pass. Then, a long passage through the forest before arriving at Pipay, which is the smallest but highest of the three resorts of Les Sept-Laux. Very large panorama on the whole Grésivaudan from the top. Possibility of restaurant in summer tourist season, with panoramic terrace. For my part I prefer the variant leaving Froges which joins this one at the col des Ayes: same length and same difference in height, but even more regularity. Ideal to test yourself.
