Nice climb... fresh, scenic and impressive. Up to Frassinetto the climb is just right, then some important climbs in the last 3 km that are more demanding. The view from the top is super. Possibility of dirt road surface after summer storms.
Bella salita… fresca, panoramica e suggestiva. Fino a Frassinetto si sale il giusto, poi qualche strappo importante negli ultimi 3km piu’ impegnativi. Dalla cima la vista e’ super. Possibilita’ di manto stradale sporco dopo temporali estivi.
The Pian del Lupo was in the 2019 Giro (I found out at the top). It is a very nice climb with two faces. The first two thirds of the climb are quite easy and run along a wide but quiet road. It never gets really steep here and you are continuously treated to views into the valley. In the village of Frasinetto, you can refill your water bottles. You can do that at many places, so a water bottle will do fine.
After the village, the fun stops and the walls begin. Don't be fooled by the average values in the picture. Some parts of the climb are over 20 km/h. After that, it flattens out a bit. Then it levels off a bit and the party starts all over again. This continues to the top and I found it quite a plough. At the top, you have a fantastic view of the valley. A little past the top, you will find a toilet hut and an opportunity to buy an ice cream. The descent is fine, but you cannot go very fast because of the narrow road. If you are in the area and looking for a nice climb, one of the variants of this climb will fit perfectly into your tour.
De Pian del Lupo zat in 2019 in de Giro (kwam ik op de top achter). Het is een hele leuke klim met twee gezichten. De eerste tweederde van de klim zijn vrij makkelijk en lopen over een brede maar rustige weg. Hier wordt het nooit echt steil en je wordt continu getrakteerd op vergezichten in het dal. In het dorpje Frasinetto kan je je bidons bijvullen. Dat kan trouwens op veel plekken, dus met een bidon red je het prima.
Na het dorpje is het uit met de pret en beginnen de muurtjes. Laat je niet misleiden door de gemiddelde waarden uit de afbeelding. Het gaat op sommige stukken gewoon boven de 20％. Waarna het weer wat afvlakt en het feest opnieuw begint. Dit gaat door tot de top en ik vond dat nog echt wel even ploegen. Op de top heb je een fantastisch uitzicht in het dal. Iets voorbij de top in je een toilethuisje vinden en een mogelijkheid een ijsje te kopen. De afdaling loopt prima, maar echt hard kan je door de smalle weg niet gaan. Als je in de buurt bent en een leuke klim zoekt past een van de varianten van deze klim prima in je ronde.
