The climb starts on the often busy B489, and this part of it picks up extra traffic from the B488 through from Leighton Buzzard, but once you turn off onto Stocks Lane it gets much quieter. The road is initially through a bit of a hollow way, with overhanging trees, and quite a lot of gravel on the sides of the road - more a hazard in descent than in climbing. Further up the road passes between hedges before emerging at the top and then the views open up, making the effort worthwhile.
