Beautiful climb in the heart of the Dolomites. Cycled in the Maratona amidst flowers and lots of cyclists. Runs nicely. Necessary catering in Arraba and also at the summit

Nice climb from Arabba, still really 1 of the classics in the Dolomites. Very regular in terms of percentages.

Zeer regelmatig qua percentages.

This is one of my favourite climbs in the Dolomites. It climbs through a wide and open valley steady throughout with lovely hairpin bends toward Passo Pordoi. There are views of the Sella throughout, flowers grow in the meadows by the roadside and in the early morning it was quiet and peaceful. We also descended this side in an earlier ride which is super fun, weaving through the hairpin bends.

The Pordoi is famous in Giro history and was on my priority list when visiting the area for the first time. I echo what others have said. I rode it twice in a few days - the first time in the sunshine and the next was as the second climb of the Maratona, this time riding through the clouds. Both ascents were enjoyable but of course in the sunshine with great views was the best. Nice road surface, plenty of switchbacks, and consistent gradient allowing a good rhythm. Do it and make sure you stop at the top to check out the Coppi memorial.

Beautiful climb from Arabba. Cycled in September 2023 as last ascent of Sella Ronda clockwise.
Unfortunately it was very cloudy so couldn't enjoy the beautiful views. Lots of hairpin bends and plenty of catering establishments at the top of the pass to refuel. Sella Ronda is the most beautiful lap you can cycle so this climb should not be missing from your list.

Mooi beklimming vanuit Arabba.

In my opinion, this is the most beautiful side of the Pordoi. Directly from the village, the hairpin bends begin and this continues to the top. Very constant, so once you get into a rhythm you cycle delightfully uphill. You have on the way very good visibility of the curves below you, so you have easy contact with your fellow cyclists.
As a descent also fun to do, if you like to steer. In any case, the road surface is top notch.

Wegdek is in elk geval top.

Stunning climb. Great road surface, beautiful scenery and quiet (if you go early). Would also be a great road to descend!

I did this as part of the Sella Ronda from Corvana (clockwise). Absolutely loved it. Don’t miss it.

Magnificent climb. Through 33 hairpins in an open landscape up. The gradient is continuously 6-8 percent without peaks.
Quite a lot of traffic, but not annoying.

Prachtige klim. Via 33 haarspeldbochten in een open landschap omhoog. Stijgingspercentage is continu 6-8 procent zonder uitschieters omhoog.
Best veel verkeer, maar niet hinderlijk

The Passo Pordoï from Arabba is a nice steady climb without extremes, but as the last climb of the Sella Ronda
(Sella/Gardena/Campolongo/Pordoï) it could still count.
At the foot of the climb the 33 hairpin bends start immediately on a wide and good road surface between the alpine meadows towards the top, which turns into rocks and stone. Beautiful scenery with on the right side the imposing rocks of Sass PordoÏ and on the left in the distance the Marmolada group.
There are 2 short tunnels and there is a kilometre mark to the top. Pay attention because turn 33 is still a long way from the summit!
On top of the busy tourist pass we find, next to the extensive catering and souvenir shops, the monument of Fausto Coppi and the memorial bike of Gilberto Simoni. As a reminder of the importance of this climb in the history of the Giro.

I am lucky to have done many beautiful climbs, Ventoux, Stelvio, Mangart, Spain, Italy etc etc. But when you ride through the Dolomites and the sun is shining it doesn't get much more beautiful than this.
My last day in 2017 in this area, only 125 kilomter from San Cassiano to Bolzano. With the Campolongo as a warm-up, the Pordoi as a climax and then the Costalunga and Nova Ponente to unlearn it. We didn't know that a 4th category climb would follow and we didn't know that a huge hailstorm would drive us into the forest.

But let's focus on this giant, it's Friday and that weekend the Dolomite Marathon was on the program. That means that hundreds, if not thousands of people will be ascending this mountain that day. For us it was a farewell and for the others a preparation.
With my Italian beauty (Wilier Zero7) you cannot ride unnoticed in Italy and there are many Belezza's and Ciao's coming my way. A fantastic experience on a majestic climb.
You have no idea how big the rock formation is that you are looking at, suddenly I hear a helicopter and after some searching I see a dot moving in front of the rock face. It looked like a fly, that is how big the rock/mountain is. So impressive that you notice little of the climbing, keep breathing and especially enjoy. Resting in the s-bends and stopping occasionally for a photo. Once at the top, the wind made us shiver, with wind force 5 and a temperature around 5 degrees it made a long stay impossible. A quick refuel, some food and soon we were descending into the warmth.
An unforgettable day and I'm looking forward to my next encounter June 2021.

We cycled them as part of the Sella Ronda. This round is very worthwhile.

This mountain has many beautiful views and road surface is fine. The amount of traffic is a minus point. Too bad that so many people want to enjoy the mountain and the views
