Not particularly steep, but I caught a day with continuous stormy gusts that swept through right from the exit from Livigno. The ascent leads over very open terrain, especially the steeper, second half with its long left-hand bend is very visible and therefore prone to storms, but fog and/or downpours also tend to form over the top of the pass. I was probably a bit lucky with the traffic and so the climb was very atmospheric, especially as this was my first pass in the high mountains and made me want to do more!
Nicht sonderlich steil, doch ich habe einen Tag mit durchgehend stürmischen Böen erwischt, die bereits ab der Ortsausfahrt von Livigno durchfegten. Der Anstieg führt über sehr offenes Gelände, insbesondere die steilere, zweite Hälfte mit ihrer langgezogenen Linkskurve ist weit einsehbar und entsprechend sturmanfällig, aber auch Nebel und/oder Steigungsregen bildet sich gerne über der Passhöhe. Mit dem Verkehr hatte ich vermutlich etwas Glück und so war der Anstieg sehr atmosphärisch, insbesondere weil dies mein erster Pass im Hochgebirge war und Lust auf mehr gemacht hat! Übrigens: Man fährt durchweg auf Asphalt, kein Schotter ;)
Good asphalt ascent. It starts easy from Livigno and gradually gets steeper, which, together with the altitude and distance, also increases the feeling of effort. However, it never feels like a very difficult climb.
It is worth the short descent and the 3km to Passo Bernina with the two lakes and the descent past the glacier.
I can't comment on the traffic because I did it as part of the Engadin Radmarathon (La Cuorta).
Subida con buen asfalto. Empieza fácil desde Livigno y va subiendo gradualmente la pendiente, lo cual, unido a la altitud y la distancia, aumenta también la sensación de esfuerzo. Sin embargo, nunca se siente una subida muy difícil.
Merece la pena hacer la corta bajada y continuar 3km hacia el Passo Bernina con los dos lagos y la bajada pasando delante del glaciar.
No puedo comentar sobre el tráfico porque lo hice como parte de la Engadin Radmarathon (La Cuorta).
Acceptable and digestible gradients thanks to the landscape. Road not very wide, but beautiful valley. Highly recommended on the BORMIO-FOSCAGNO-LIVIGNO-FORCOLA-TIRANO-BORMIO tour. Long, tiring but well worth it!
Pendenze accettabili e digeribili grazie al paesaggio. Strada non larghissima ma vallata splendida. Molto consigliata nel tour BORMIO-FOSCAGNO-LIVIGNO-FORCOLA-TIRANO-BORMIO. Lungo, faticoso ma merita !!!

June 2021. The plan was to do some more Swiss passes (COVID-19) Switzerland no access yet. From Prad to Livigno. Tax Free (e.g. Gasoline € 1.06 Cigarettes € 3.90) The Forcola first 5km bike path taken last hundreds of meters gravel of the bike path. Feel the Alps (maybe I missed the sign) last 5km 6％ 0,0 hairpin turns in this Passo, beautiful but not really worth doing once or descend a few km and go to the Bernina Pass but yes Switzerland Lock Down.

Benzine € 1,06 Sigaretten € 3,90) De Forcola eerste 5km fietspad genomen laatste honderden meters grind van het fietspad. Feel the Alps (misschien bord gemist) laatste 5km 6％ 0,0 haarspeldbochten in deze Passo, wel mooi maar niet echt eens gedaan moet hebben of enkele km afdalen en de Bernina Pass op maar ja Zwitserland Lock Down.
Italian Livigno is popular with shoppers because it is tax-free, with professional cycling teams as a high altitude training ground and was also my base of a hiking & cycling holiday.
Cross-border Passo Forcola di Livigno is one of the many climbs in the area.
Start with a gentle run of about 9 kilometers on gently rising fairly straight roads. From the centre you can alternatively follow a traffic-free cycle route along the river, but after about six kilometres the tarmac stops.
In the second part of the climb it gets a little steeper without extremes and the route follows a long left turn, upwards in the pure nature of the Valle della Forcola. Before reaching the summit you cycle through 4 half-open passages.
Pass height is a narrow passage between two mountain sides and forms the Italian - Swiss border. One finds here the last tax-free shop and mountain café (food & drinks) on Italian territory.
Nice pleasant and not too long climb that you have to overcome if you want to go to the Swiss Bernina pass, but at times there is heavy traffic of tax-free shoppers to and from Switzerland.
In the afternoon before the evening return of tourists was for me the ideal cycling moment, but you will also need some luck.

Italiaanse Livigno is populair bij shoppers omdat het taxvrij is, bij professionele wielerteams als hoogtestageplaats en was ook mijn uitvalbasis van een wandel & fietsvakantie.
Grensoverschrijdende Passo Forcola di Livigno is één van de vele beklimmingen in de omgeving.
Start met een rustige aanloop van ongeveer 9 kilometer op licht stijgende vrij rechte wegen. Vanuit het centrum kan men vlak langs de rivier als alternatief een verkeersvrije fietsroute volgen maar na een zestal kilometer stopt het asfalt.
In het tweede deel van de klim wordt het iets steiler zonder extremen en volgt de route een lange linkse draaibeweging, opwaarts in de pure natuur van de Valle della Forcola. Voor het bereiken van de top fiets je nog door 4 halfopen gaanderijen.
Pashoogte is smalle doorgang tussen twee bergflanken en vormt de Italiaans - Zwitserse staatsgrens. Men vindt er de laatste taxfreeshop en bergcafé (eten & drinken) op Italiaans grondgebied.
Mooie aangename en niet te lange klim die je over moet als je naar de Zwitserse Bernina pas wil, maar bij momenten is er druk verkeer van taxfree shoppers van en naar Zwitserland.
In de namiddag voor de avond terugtocht van toeristen was voor mij het ideale fietsmoment,maar je zal er ook wat geluk mee moeten hebben.

Monte Vago (3050m).
Je kan ook zonder fiets je beenspieren aan het werk zetten !!!!
