I rode this pass in early July as part of a circular ride to the Marmolada and I absolutely loved this pass. After leaving Canazei you ride the first section through villages in the valley which can be busy, then you rise via a number of hairpins through a lovely pine forest before the last section which is mainly straight up and takes you through covered parts of the road and a 400m tunnel to the hydro lake on the Fedaia pass. What makes this ride so special is that you ride opposite of the rocky side of the Marmolada which changes as you ride up and is totally unique. The lake on the top is beautiful and the decent into Caprile is great.

Nice climb to Fedaia reservoir. The first kilometres go up fairly gently, afterwards the gradient fluctuates constantly around 7-8-9% but with a fairly even gradient.
At the top of the reservoir, you have a nice view of the Marmolada glacier.
For those who ride further, a fantastically spectacular descent awaits on a nice wide road. For this alone, you cycle up to the top.

From the tourist Canazei you can start for the classic Sella Ronda but also to the Fedaia reservoir up cycling.
The first few kilometres rise gradually with still quite busy traffic through the villages of Alba and Penia.
Then the first of five numbered hairpin bends, which will take you a good 4 km. to climb firmly (7-9%) against the left side of the mountain and regularly through half open avalanche chutes. The view on the snowy north face of the Gran Vernel is fantastic. After a well lit tunnel (415m) we arrive at the top of Rifugio Castiglioni at the dam of the lake next to the impressive glacier of the Marmolada.
The official sign for the summit is already there but you can then continue on an almost flat road on high gear through five short half-open passages to Rifugio Fedaia (supply) on the other side of the windy mountain reservoir.

Less difficult than the other side, but thanks to the natural beauty certainly not the boring monotonous climb as some claim.
