This is a fairly popular climb for cyclists and motorbikes in the Trebbia Valley. Passo Penice connects Bobbio with Lombardy and can be reached by many sides (Romagnese, Passo del Brallo, Passo Scaparina).
This variant starts from Bobbio, a charming historical town in the middle of Val Trebbia which is worth a visit in itself. The road goes up steeply but fairly regularly and you can get into the rhythm of the climb. The landscapes and views are pretty nice as you gain altitude, and you can see the radio/TV towers at the top of Penice in front of you. Further up in the climb you will encounter short steeper segments and a pine forest.
Once you get to the top you can get some refreshments at the bar, or you can continue onto Monte Penice to get to the summit (on a narrowed, more irregular and steeper road).
