Risalendo la Val Trebbia, poco dopo il bivio per Travo, sulla sinistra si stacca la salita per Castellaro.
Abbandonata la trafficatissima SS45 si sale per 4 km con qualche tornante fino al valico di Castellaro. Salita impegnativa ma costante sul 9-10%. In cima, sulla sinistra, dopo 300mt di sterrato molto ripido si arriva alla chiesetta del Castellaro. Sempre deserta tranne la prima domenica di Agosto quando viene organizzata una festa con ottimi spiedini e ravioli di magro. Da non perdere!!
Proseguendo, in 6 km, si scende nella valle del Nure.
