Very nice ascent from Faja dos Cubres that you will have to descend before venturing up, as it is a dead end.
The road is not very wide, but the road surface is very good. You climb up along a mountainside along the coast for the most part. Many times you have views over the sea, the village and the lake. There are several viewpoints to take a quiet look at here.
The climb continues briskly and only really flattens out at the end. Because of the steep percentages, I would avoid the inside bends. But also because of the tourist traffic you might occasionally encounter. But overall, the climb is wonderfully quiet.
If you want to continue after the climb, you can turn left at the top at the main road and then left again towards serro do topo. This road continues undulating and offers you views of the other side of the island. Between the green hills and fields you climb some more, but not nearly as hard as this climb.
Erg leuke beklimming vanaf Faja dos Cubres die je eerst zal moeten afdalen voordat je je aan de beklimming waagt, want het is een doodlopende weg.
De weg is niet heel breed, maar het wegdek is erg goed. Je klimt grotendeels langs een bergwand langs de kust omhoog. Veelal heb je uitzicht over de zee, het dorpje en het meer. Er zijn verschillende uitzichtpunten om hier rustig een blik op te werpen.
De klim blijft stevig doorklimmen en vlakt pas op het eind echt af. Vanwege de steile percentages zou ik de binnenbochten maar mijden. Maar ook vanwege het toeristische verkeer dat je zo nu en dan zou kunnen tegenkomen. Maar over het algemeen is de klim heerlijk rustig.
Mocht je na de klim nog verder willen, dan kun je bovenop bij de grote weg linksaf en dan weer links richting serro do topo. Deze weg loopt glooiend door en biedt je uitzichten over de andere kant van het eiland. Tussen de groene heuvels en velden klim je zo nog wat verder, maar lang niet zo zwaar als deze klim.
