Ridden in September 2021. With holiday bike (plus 16kg luggage) fine to do so for road cyclists probably on the easy side. Busy road with many pats cars and buses. A very pleasant and also even climb. It does not get very steep anywhere and the road surface is a very good condition. We also had very little traffic on a Wednesday afternoon. The beginning of the climb was quite warm, but later on we were quite sheltered and it wasn't too bad either.

My latest update (09/2024) is that the road is closed to cycling (without any roadworks). Strangely enough, the official route of the Via Augusta still seems to include this section. However: Relatively heavy traffic, but it never got too crowded. Sometimes beautiful views on the ascent towards Switzerland, the pass itself rather boring - but with a nice opportunity to take a break 20 metres above the road and watch the hustle and bustle below.

Rode this section in 2018 while bikepacking along the Via Claudia Augusta. One of the highlights of the trip!

Climb which starts in Switzerland and after 100m you are in Austria. Not very difficult, the hairpin bends are numbered so good to estimate how long it is. Once at the top you have a view on Nauders.

Gereden in september 2021.

I rode this during my cycling holiday to Verona. Climbs gradually over a good road surface. Beautiful (numbered) hairpin bends and environment. The only drawback is the traffic, there are quite a few motorcycles and cars that do not all take the (climbing) cyclist into account.

I did this climb on a city bike with 7 gears plus all sorts of bags on and off the bike. That was pretty tough, but this climb with a road bike is easy to do. Do not forget to cycle from the top to the Lago di Resia and to have a cup of coffee at the little castle on the waterfront. Magnificent views.

Just before Martina, we met two Serbs who skipped this climb, because they had found an (according to them) easier alternative, the Stelvio :)
