This is undoubtedly the main side of Mont Thou, and one of the most demanding. It's fairly uneven, and the passage through the hamlet of Mont Thou will put a lot of pressure on the thighs. The setting is truly magnificent.
It's a fairly short climb in beautiful surroundings, and the few high percentage sections and steep finish make it a great climb! What's more, there's always a crowd, so you won't be climbing alone!
It's a pleasant climb, as you soon find yourself in greenery and nature as soon as you leave St Romain. The gradient is usually steady, but not too steep, but the tarmac is not very pleasant.
After the short steep section through the hamlet of Le Thou, I prefer to turn left to join the route des crêtes quickly (and gently downhill). After 2 more slightly steep hairpins, the straight line eases off until you reach the junction with the Route du Génie, and then you have to tackle the last few hundred metres, which are quite steep, but the approaching end allows you to put your last bit of strength into it.
This is the nicest side to climb Mont Thou. Or rather, it's the nicest ride into the Monts d'Or. It might have slightly steeper gradients than any other road, but is by far the most quiet route up. Highly recommended.

Nice, much harder and quieter than the climb on the other side. Some high gradients, especially in 2 passages, but overall nice. To be done from Lyon!
