I did it in 2 stages:
on the 1st evening, after arriving in Pailherols, I went to the buron de la Tuillière, a cul-de-sac located about 25 m lower and about 400 m from the high point, which is a little further and higher than on the map, at # 1360 m. This is only 28.3 km but still 803 m of ascent, with a climb from the Gaye bridge over the Goul (# 817 m) to the Col de Curebourse and back to Pailherols. Magnificent scenery: to the north, views of the Monts du Cantal (Plomb du Cantal, 1855 m, is, I think, hidden by Puy Gros, 1594 m) and to the west, the valley of the Cère, 600 m below. What about the road over the last 5 km? The percentage km by km doesn't give you any idea of the difficulty, there are passages verging on 15% but they never exceed a few hundred m, phew! As for the descent, it's not easy, there's a bit of gravel, fortunately I had the gravel, you get carried away very quickly by the speed, but be careful! there're lots of little speed bumps designed to evacuate rainwater, so you'd better not exceed 30 km/h there!
A few days later, I did the AR Pailherols-Vic sur Cère, again, a short distance (27.6km) but a good climb (746m). The descent from the Col de Curebourse is via the main D54 road and the ascent (as indicated on the map) via the D154. Advantages: 1 km shorter without excessive gradients, fewer cars and a more open space in the middle of meadows and less in the forest.

le 1er soir, après être arrivé à Pailherols, je suis allé au buron de la Tuillière, cul-de-sac situé environ 25 m plus bas et à 400 m environ du point haut, lequel se trouve un peu plus loin et plus haut que sur le plan, à # 1360 m. AR de 28,3 km seulement mais quand même 803 m de dénivelé, avec depuis le pont de Gaye sur le Goul (# 817 m), montée au col de Curebourse et au retour, remontée à Pailherols . Paysages magnifiques, vers le Nord, vue sur les monts du Cantal (le Plomb du Cantal, 1855 m est, je pense, caché par le Puy Gros, 1594 m) et à l'Ouest, la vallée de la Cère, 600 m plus bas. Que dire de la route sur les 5 derniers km? Le pourcentage km par km ne donne pas l'idée de la difficulté, il y a des passages frisant le 15% mais ils ne dépassent jamais quelques centaines de m, ouf! Quant à la descente, pas évidente, un peu de gravillons, heureusement que j'avais le gravel, on se laisse très vite emporter par la vitesse, mais attention! il y a de multiples petits dos d'âne destinés à évacuer les eaux de pluie, mieux vaut ne pas y dépasser les 30 km/h!
Quelques jours plus tard, j'ai fait l'AR Pailherols-Vic sur Cère, là encore, peu de km (27,6) mais un beau dénivelé (746m). Descente du col de Curebourse faite par la route "principale" D54 et remontée (comme indiqué sur le plan) par la D154. Avantages: 1 km de moins sans que les pourcentages soient excessifs, moins de voitures et espace plus "ouvert" au milieu des prairies et moins dans la forêt.
