Very nice climb, not too long but steep at times. The surface is very good, and there's not a lot of traffic after Ayagaures. Beautiful views throughout all the climb, and nice top of the hill with the "Cima Pedro Gonzales" sign. The descend to Maspalomas is also very nice.
Nice climb that you can do in a drive of about 1 hour from Maspalomas. On the way there, you ride on false flat to Ayagaures. In the village it starts to climb for the first time, but pretty soon there is a bit of descent/flat after which the rest of the climb starts. Although it goes up quite steeply, it is still doable with the right fitness and gears. Also nice is that you can see the last part to the top with the hairpin bends against the mountainside. Also be sure to look around you on the way up, the views to the mountains and valley are worth it. At the top, as a reward, is the last fine view to the mountains and the descent begins. This one is manageable and tempts you to stop occasionally for the views to the sea. And before you know it, you're on the road to Maspalomas.
Beautiful climb that is easily accessible from Maspolomas. There is a 5 mile drag up the valley at about 2% before reaching the tougher inclines so keep something back.
Left hander at the bottom of the dam and it starts with a few scenic hairpins at 7% that bring you out at Ayagaures. Left hand turn and there's a sharp little gradient before about 3 minutes of respite. This is the only part where the surface is a bit broken up.
After this, it's pretty constant steep stuff. The stretches between the hairpins get longer but the view looking north is stunning.
Gradient eases a bit on the last straight where there is a superb observational spot for photos.
I think this is the best way to do the Ayagaures loop and on an easier day, it's a beautiful ride to the village plaza where there is a small cafe with a magnificent view back down the valley with the first few hairpins in the foreground.
Even on this 'recovery' ride day, you still winch yourself up to just over 1000ft elevation and it's pretty much achievable for all levels.
Lots of cyclists on the valley road but that thins out after Ayagaures, as does the motor traffic, although there's not too much of that anyway.
