I rode it the day before yesterday, starting from Costermano. I added the via spiazzi Coltri to the climb and here the percentages also run up nicely. Here I gave up. Then turning left in Ferrara and then the stretch past the cemetery was also a tough one for me. If only I had put a 34 on the back instead of my 30.
After this stretch you can catch your breath for a while until one of the mountain huts at the top where the 19％ signs are posted.
Ik heb deze eergisteren gereden, begonnen vanuit costermano. Ik heb de via spiazzi Coltri toegevoegd aan de klim en hier lopen de percentages ook wel lekker de hoogte in. Hier heb ik afgezien. Dan in Ferrara links afslaan en dan het stuk voorbij het kerkhof was ook een zware dobber voor mij. Had ik toch maar een 34 gestoken achteraan ipv mijn 30.
Na dit stuk kan je even terug tot adem komen tot een van de berghutten boven waar de borden van 19％ staan.
Not too demanding climb, very beautiful in terms of scenery. I last did it on 7 December, starting from the Caprino cemetery.
It climbs steadily at 6/7％ until Spiazzi with a few stretches where you can breathe. After a few kilometres you can distinctly see Lake Garda and Sirmione. As soon as I entered Spiazzi, I took the road to the left that passes the Great War cemetery and the Villaggio Alpino. The route is enjoyable and alternates between slightly uphill and downhill stretches and 500m tougher sections near the junction of the Cacciatore Restaurant. From that point up to the Novezza saddle is real climbing, with a real blow at the Rifugio Novezza.
In this season, the road at that point is closed due to snow.
The view from there is beautiful, you would never want to descend. Also because in this season the downhill stretch in the forest is a mystical experience.
Salita non troppo impegnativa, molto bella dal punto di vista paesaggistico. L’ultima volta l’ho fatta il 7 Dicembre, partendo dal cimitero di Caprino.
Sale regolare al 6/7％ fino a Spiazzi con alcuni tratti in cui si rifiata. Dopo qualche km si vedono distintamente il lago di Garda e Sirmione. Appena entrato a Spiazzi ho preso la strada a sinistra che passa per il cimitero della Grande Guerra e per il Villaggio Alpino. Il percorso è godibile e alterna tratti in leggera salita, tratti in discesa e 500m più duri a ridosso del bivio del Ristorante Cacciatore. Da quel punto fino alla sella di Novezza è salita vera, con un’autentica mazzata all’altezza del Rifugio Novezza.
In questa stagione la strada in quel punto è chiusa per neve.
La vista da li è bellissima, non vorresti mai scendere. Anche perchè in questa stagione il tratto nel bosco in discesa è un’esperienza mistica.
The climb to the Monte Baldo - actually a collective name for several 'Courageous Mountains' - ends at 1617 m on the Bocca del Creer, after a challenging course of varied steepness. A rather lethargic first section can perfectly be spiced up by including the Via Coltri from Castagnara in your climb and I suspect that this Monte Baldo via Mezzavilla will then score around 1500 climbing points. (Could this be right, Climbfinder?) From Ferrara di Monte Baldo the real calf work starts, the demotivatingly long steep road to Novezza next to the cable car is just prelude to over half to one whole kilometre of climbing around the 19％, at least for that, a road sign gives the shot twice. Once this violence has been overcome, you can enjoy a bit of descending and flat road - don't forget to stop at the albergo for the obligatory photo of Lake Garda, which is the only time you can see the lake from this altitude by the way. The last few kilometres go up again, but not very steep. You can see the 'top' in the distance and that gives you willpower, courage. Not for nothing the Monte Baldo so.
PS Should you encounter a wild bear, then this is perfectly normal. The whole nature reserve is a bear biotope.
De klim naar de Monte Baldo - eigenlijk een verzamelnaam van verschillende ‘Moedige Bergen’ - eindigt op 1617 m op de Bocca del Creer, na een uitdagend parcours van afwisselende steiltes. Een eerder gezapig eerste gedeelte kan je perfect wat extra pit geven door de Via Coltri vanuit Castagnara in je klim op te nemen en ik vermoed dat deze Monte Baldo via Mezzavilla dan rond de 1500 klimpunten zal scoren. (Zou dit kunnen kloppen, Climbfinder?) Vanaf Ferrara di Monte Baldo start het echte kuitenwerk, de demotiverend lang steil slepende weg naar Novezza naast de kabelbaan is slechts prelude voor ruim een halve tot een hele kilometer klimmen rond de 19％, althans daarvoor geeft een verkeersbord tot tweemaal toe toch het schot voor de boeg. Eenmaal dit geweld overwonnen, kan je genieten van een stukje dalen en vlakke weg - vergeet bij de albergo niet te stoppen voor de obligate foto van het Gardameer, da’s de enige keer dat het meer kan zien vanop die hoogte trouwens. De laatste paar kilometers gaan terug omhoog, maar niet sterk stijgend. Je ziet de ‘top’ in de verte verschijnen en dat geeft wilskracht, moed. Niet voor niets de Monte Baldo dus.
PS Mocht je een wilde beer tegenkomen, dan is dit perfect normaal. Het hele natuurgebied is een berenbiotoop.
Ridden from Caprino. A beautiful varied climb. Until Spiazzi it was quite busy with cars and motorcycles. Then better. It was a Sunday, probably quieter on other days.
The steepest part is in my opinion short of the longer flat descending part. A few hundred meters from 15-18％.
Did the descent to Avio. Spectacular! After Avio you can return to Caprino and Garda relaxed on touristic cycle path along the canal through the Adige valley.
Gereden vanuit Caprino. Een prachtige gevarieerde klim. Tot Spiazzi was het vrij druk met auto's en motoren. Daarna beter. Het was een zondag, waarschijnlijk rustiger op andere dagen.
Stijlste stukje komt m.i. kort voor het langere vlakke/dalende deel. Paar honderd meter van 15-18％.
De afdaling naar Avio gedaan. Spectaculair! Na Avio kan je relaxt terug naar Caprino en Garda over toeritisch fietspad langs het kanaal door het dal van de Adige.
Twice I rode from Lasize via Bardolina and then via Caprino Veronese up the last part which is a real killer 19％. Fortunately, on the MTB, disc brakes and wider tyres were very welcome on the descent. It is a tough climb for sure.
Twee keer gereden vanuit Lasize via Bardolina en dan via Caprino Veronese naar boven het laatste stuk is echte een killer 19％. Gelukkig op de MTB, schijfremmen en wat bredere banden met het afdalen was best welkom. Pittige klim is het zeker.
What a pimple! The variation in gradient is nice but also very hard. It starts not too steep. A descent and after Ferrara di Monte Baldo you get a piece of 15％. That is the toughest part. Along the way, the view is beautiful! Definitely recommended.
Wat een puist! De variatie in stijgingspercentage is prettig maar ook erg lastig. Het begint niet al te stijl. Een afdaling en na Ferrara di Monte Baldo krijg je een stuk van 15％. Dat is het zwaarste deel. Onderweg is het uitzicht prachtig! Zeker een aanrader.
