Early in the morning 7.30 started the climb. I am not an experienced climber but after a week and a half of climbing I was able to do it. It is tough but regularly steep. Upper 3 km of the descent back to Campet is dangerous because of the levelling of the road with fine gravel. During the climb we had little or no traffic. Most of the climb is between the trees. My 1st experience with a HC col. Duration from the junction with the D42 (8 km to the top) 1 hour 15 min.
Vroeg in de ochtend 7.30 begonnen aan de klim. Ik ben geen ervaren klimmer maar heb hem met anderhalve week klimmeters gemaakt te hebben goed kunnen doen. Hij is zwaar maar regelmatig steil. Bovenste 3 km van de afdaling terug naar Campet is gevaarlijk door de egalisatie van de weg met fijn grind. Tijdens de klim weinig tot geen verkeer gehad. Grootste gedeelte van de klim is tussen de bomen. Mijn 1e ervaring met een HC col. Duur vanaf de kruising met de D42 (8 km tot de top) 1 uur en 15 min.
This climb was not easy at all. It is very quiet but also very steep, so you never get into a good rhythm. From Meyrieux, you get two kilometers of relative calm and then you have to work your way up the 11％km road to the top. At the viewpoint on the left side of the road (which didn't offer much of a view because of the fog), it levels off to a still respectable 7-8％ but at least you can get your pedals around a bit more smoothly. Nice to have done once, it was a kind of bucketlist climb for me, but because of the terrifying descent (narrow and steep road, boulders everywhere on the tarmac) I think it was a one-off.
Deze klim vond ik absoluut niet makkelijk. Het is heel rustig maar ook heel erg steil, dus je komt nooit in een lekker ritme. Vanaf Meyrieux krijg je twee kilometer relatieve rust en daarna is het harken op een weg van 11％ tot bijna boven. Bij het uitkijkpunt aan de linkerkant van de weg (dat vanwege de mist niet echt veel uitzicht bood) vlakt het af naar een nog steeds respectabele 7-8％ maar dan kun je tenminste je trappers wat soepeler rondkrijgen. Mooi om een keer gedaan te hebben, het was wel een soort bucketlistklim voor mij, maar vanwege de doodenge afdaling (smalle en steile weg, overal keien op het asfalt) was het denk ik wel eenmalig.
We found this climb quite easy. There was little traffic too so we were able to climb fairly undisturbed.
Deze klim vonden we vrij makkelijk. Er was weinig verkeer ook dus we hebben vrij ongestoord kunnen klimmen.
Francien, the climb you found quite easy is not the same as described here. We are talking about the Mont du Chat or Relais du Mont du Chat here and you have done the Col du Chat, which is a few kilometres north.
