This climb is horrible. Its percentage and length may be similar to those of the Col du Granon, but these two climbs have nothing in common. The footing in the village of Theus is steep, followed by a flat spot in the middle before you reach the last three kilometres. They are terribly hard. There are wall after wall at 15％. The worst is undoubtedly the sign indicating that the average gradient for the next kilometre is 13％ ... in a passage at 16 ％. On the other hand, the view at the top is phenomenal. Don't forget to take water and do it!
Cette montée est horrible. Son pourcentage et sa longueur on beau être semblable à ceux du col du granon ces deux montées n'ont rien à voir. Le pied dans le village de Theus est raide ensuite un "replat" au milieu avant d'atteindre les trois derniers kilomètres. Ils sont terriblement dur. On enchaine les mur à 15％. Le pire est sans doute le panneau qui indique que la pente moyenne du prochain kilomètre est à 13％ ... dans un passage à 16 ％. Par contre la vue au sommet est phénoménale. N'oubliez pas de prendre de l'eau et faite la !
Deze klim gedaan midden Augustus 2025, de klim zelf is verschrikkelijk onregelmatig waarbij het gemiddelde misschien wel 9.x％ is maar je ziet ook ergens een kilometer die onder de 6％ zit en kilometers dik boven de 10％. Steilste stuk is in het dorpje waar toen ik even keek mijn garmin van mening was dat het minstens 18％ was.
Uitzicht op de top is echter schitterend! Afdaling is niet fantastisch i.v.m. het wegdek en de breedte (en bij mij waren er toch meer autos dan ik had verwacht).
Prachtige klim. Super rustig, auto's hebben hier ook eigenlijk niets te zoeken. De bordjes langs de weg kloppen vaak niet echt, en de laatste 3km zijn echt flink steil. Het uitzicht is het dubbel en dwars waard!

Dès le panneau Theus, il t’annonce la couleur. Certaines sections sont extrêmement lourdes, plus que ce que montre le profil de Climbfinder.
Tu vas serrer des dents et tirer sur ton cintre. Enfin, moi, c’est ce que j’ai dû faire. Je n’ai pas trouvé l’ascension particulièrement belle, à l’exception des demoiselles du bal qui offrent une récréation insolite.
Par contre, à l’arrivée au sommet, la vue est grandiose.
La descente est dingue et magique ! Attention, vigilance requise.

A breathtaking climb in many ways. Where the roads in the valley can be quite busy, this climb is an oasis of calm from the very first ascents. The percentages are really tough and despite the fact that many climbs in this area are higher and longer, this is by far the toughest. Especially the meandering in the village after a few kilometers do not feel good, knowing that you are only on 1/3 of the climb. After that, you get a few kilometers something that resembles rest, but the last kilometers you really have to work hard with some steep climbs. Yet I will remember this climb especially for the beautiful views of the surrounding lower cols and the higher cols further away, of course also on the lake and very crazy the extreme heat that you just saw rising from the valley. And that was for me the most important point of attention: be careful with extremely hot days (which you have here a lot), because you have little or no shelter.
Een adembenemende klim in vele opzichten. Waar de wegen in het dal hier nogal druk kunnen zijn, is deze klim vanaf de eerste stijgingen gelijk een oase van rust. De percentages zijn echt heel zwaar en ondanks dat hier in de omgeving veel beklimmingen hoger en langer zijn, is dit verreweg de zwaarste. Vooral het gekronkel in het dorp na een paar kilometer voelen niet fijn, wetend dat je hier pas op 1/3 van de klim zit. Je krijgt daarna wel een paar kilometers iets wat op rust lijkt, maar de laatste kilometers mag je echt aan de bak met flinke uitschieters. Toch zal ik deze beklimming vooral herinneren vanwege de prachtige uitzichten op de omliggende lagere cols en de verderaf gelegen hogere cols, natuurlijk ook op het meer en heel gek de extreme hitte die je gewoon uit het dal op zag stijgen. En dat was voor mij gelijk het belangrijkste aandachtspunt: let op met extreem warme dagen (die je hier veel hebt), want beschutting heb je niet of nauwelijks.

Really a climb to have done once. No time to breathe, extremely steep part after 5 KM in Reus and the last 3 km are really very steep, especially after the 9 first.

Especially from the village and the last few km are quite heavy. But a beautiful view once you're up there. Almost no traffic, and a good road surface make the climb somewhat doable.

Vooral stukje het dorp uit en de laatste paar km zijn best zwaar. Maar een prachtig uitzicht als je eenmaal boven bent. Bijna geen verkeer, en een goed wegdek maken de klim nog enigszins te doen.
Cycled up it last summer. The toughest climb ever for me, which I did not expect beforehand. No traffic, but there are cows at the top that can block the road or make phone calls! The view is truly phenomenal, also the stalactites halfway up are great to see.
Afgelopen zomer opgefietst. De zwaarste beklimming ooit voor mij, wat ik vooraf niet had verwacht. Geen verkeer, wel koeien boven die de weg kunnen blokkeren of lekker kunnen bellen! Het uitzicht is werkelijk waar fenomenaal, ook de druipstenen halverwege zijn geweldig om te zien.
A tough climb with very steep parts. I started this climb deliberately quiet and only used the 30 teeth front blade of my triple and 23 and 25 teeth at the back. Very nice view at the top and very quiet traffic. Recommended for those who want to test themselves. Only encountered 1 cyclist and a few cars.
Pittige klim met zeer steile gedeeltes. Ik ben deze klim bewust rustig begonnen en heb alleen maar het 30 tanden voorblad van mijn triple icm 23 en 25 tandjes achter gebruikt. Zeer mooi uitzicht boven en heel rustig verkeer. Aanrader voor wie zich wil testen. Welgeteld 1 fietser tegengekomen en een paar auto's.

Make sure you have enough teeth on your rear sprocket! Done it a few times and you can feel immediately if you have good legs or not!
Denk aan genoeg tandjes op je tandwiel achter! Heb hem een paar keer gedaan en je voelt direct of je goede benen hebt of niet!
Tricky climb, where you really need to find a rhythm in the first few kilometers otherwise there is a real agony waiting. Also, taking enough water is a must, even on cooler days. To illustrate: I started cycling on a hot day, ran out of water and completely lost my rhythm; this resulted in a more than two-hour ordeal. A few days later, on a cool day, I started cycling with plenty of water, taking over an hour off my previous time. Good luck for those who follow!

Lastige klim, waarbij je echt een ritme moet vinden in de eerste kilometers anders staat er een heuse lijdensweg te wachten. Ook is genoeg water meenemen een must, zelfs op wat koelere dagen. Ter illustratie: ik ben op een hete dag gaan fietsen, zonder water komen te zitten en m'n ritme compleet kwijt geraakt; dit zorgde voor een ruim twee uur durende lijdensweg. Een paar dagen later ben ik op een koele dag gaan fietsen met genoeg water, ik heb zo ruim een uur van m'n eerdere tijd af gedaan. Succes voor wie volgt!

Wij vliegen met de paralidingschool vaak vanaf de top van deze mooie berg, hij staat op mijn lijstje om te fietsen hoor! Gaaf zo'n site, helpt me in de voorbereiding!
What a climb! The beginning up to the village is reasonable but then towards the end the real work starts, parts of 17% and up to the finish against a wall! Once at the finish, continue for at least 50m to the end of the road, super views over the whole region, so there's a reason to give up!
Wat een beklimming! Het begin tot in het dorp gaat redelijk maar dan naar het einde toe begint pas het echte werk, stukken van 17% en tot op de meet tegen een muur omhoog! Eenmaal over de meet zeker 50m verder rijden tot op het einde van de weg, super uitzicht over de ganse streek, afzien voor een reden dus!
Nice climb, piece through the village and the last few km were heavy, but the view you get at the top is priceless.
Mooie beklimming, stukje door het dorp en de laatste paar km waren zwaar, maar het uitzicht wat je bovenaan krijgt is onbetaalbaar.
