A much better alternative to the busy road. First part to Novalesa is quite easy but long. The road then becomes in worse condition and steeper, but you climb through magnificent surroundings. Water fountains both at the start and at the top

A warm-up climb for a four-day cycling event in Susa. The start is firm with quite long and steep parts. In the mountain village of Moncenisio, you will find absolute silence.

Nice alternative climb for the Col du Moncenis from Susa, instead fo the main (and more polluted) road. It is surely harder and longer, but more enjoyable.

Cheers

Climb to car-free mountain village Moncenisio cycled when I stayed in Susa for cycling & hiking holiday (2020).
Immediately after outdoor cycling departure town on the main road to Col de Mont-Cenis/Colle delle Moncenisio (see Climbfinder) there is a right turn (SP210) followed by a turn under the motorway viaduct. The climb starts with rising fairly long straights and faint turns, in an open valley, passing Venaus until Novolesa.
Just before entering the last village the real climbing party starts after turning left over the mountain river.
Swinging over a narrow road with hardly any traffic via 18 hairpins and a beautiful bridge steep up the rocky slope with beautiful views on your approach route in Val Cenischia.
End point is a nature hidden small authentic quiet mountain village on a mountain river where time has stood still. Absolutely once walk without bike or with bike in hand.
Refreshments on the way and at the endpoint. Water source on the village square.

Hidden gem at the end of a climb with a very tough final section!
