A short but demanding climb: the first part, up to the industrial area, is rideable and well asphalted, the second part of the climb (the one leading to Masso) has gradients never below 10/11 % and the asphalt is not at all in good condition. Once in Masso, it is possible to take the road to Bracco (via Aurelia): here the road is again well asphalted and has gentler slopes.... read more

A nice, short, steep climb out of the valley near Battalia, through Masso to the ridge. I did this climb as part of a short loop from Sestri Levante.

The climb starts in the valley and runs parallel to the bypass. You'll pass an industrial area before the gradient increases and the road starts to switchback. This section takes you past Masso, a cute village with a belltower, and into the forest where it continues to climb, holding gradients of 11-8%. You'll see glimpses of where you've come from along this section but it is heavily treed (and beautiful). The last third of the climb, the gradient gently backs off until you reach the top.

Descending via Via Aurelia (which has a beautiful, smooth surface with quite a number of wide, sweeping bends) is one of the most fun descents I've had.
