I drove up the Lüdenscheidsingel for the first time about 12 years ago. At the time, the climb followed the same route as the motor traffic: a murderous lane alongside which cars and lorries raced past at 70 km/h. It was pure madness. Pure madness!

Now, so many years later, the Lüdenscheidsingel is completely separated from the busy traffic for cyclists. A completely new cycle path runs under the existing car viaduct from the Leuven canal, bringing you to the foot of this climb. A perfect strip of asphalt brings you in two "steeper"kinks of about 5 to 6 percent to the top of the canal, where also the top of the Leopold Decouxlaan can be found.

Start at the canal basin at the end of the Mechelen-Leuven Canal.
Wide bike path for both directions rises, initially under the climbing viaduct of the busy ring road, to reach the end completely separated right next to it. The highest point and the end are reached at the ring road exit direction Mechelen/Herent/E40-314.
A fine example of cycling infrastructure. More of that!

Knap staaltje fietsinfrastructuur. Meer van dat!
