A climb I do regularly: Leaving Dinant along the right bank of the Meuse, you come to the Abbey of Leffe, named after the stream that flows into the Meuse here. You turn right and follow the stream all the way upstream. After a kilometre you leave the centre and the climb becomes panoramically very attractive with rock faces on the left and the babbling brook on the right with some old mills or big old Ardennes farmhouses. It never gets steep, but the road surface is anno 2024 very bad in many places. Finally, after 5 kilometres, you come to a crossroads where the official summit is. But if you cross then you wait another 200 metres or so uphill to the centre of the village of Thynes. You really should, because there is a beautiful castle farm, right next to the church!
Een klim die ik regelmatig doe: Als je Dinant verlaat langs de rechteroever van de Maas, kom je aan de abdij van Leffe, genoemd naar het beekje dat hier uitmondt in de Maas. Je slaat rechts in en volgt de hele tijd het beekje stroomopwaarts. Na een kilomertje verlaat je het centrum en wordt de klim panoramisch erg aantrekkelijk met links rotswanden en rechts het kabbelende beekje met enkele oude molens of grote oude Ardense hoeves. Het wordt nooit steil, maar het wegdek is anno 2024 op vele plekken erg slecht. Finaal, na 5 kilometer, kom je aan een kruispunt waar de officiële top is. Maar als je oversteekt dan wacht je nog een 200-tal meter bergop tot het centrum van het dorp Thynes. Moet je echt doen, want er staat een prachtige kasteelhoeve, vlak naast de kerk!
Beautiful climb starting at Leffe Abbey.
The route runs through the beautiful valley of the Leffe with steep cliffs on the left and a babbling brook on the right. You pass an old mill and a beautiful little castle along the way. The climb does not get steep anywhere, but that gives all the more opportunities to look around quietly.
Prachtige klim die begint bij de abdij van Leffe.
De route loopt door de prachtige vallei van de Leffe met links stijle rotswanden en rechts een klaterende beekje. Je passeert onderweg een oude molen en een schitterend kasteeltje. De klim wordt nergens stijl, maar dat geeft des te meer kansen om rustig om je heen te kijken.
