Start slingerend in het dorpje Masbourg. De weg loopt al snel erg steil op en klimt eerst door enkele weilanden waarna een stukje bos volgt. Eindigend met een steil stukje. Erg mooie klim om op de steile percentages de benen te testen.
Wonderful climb on a wide road surface with excellent tarmac, where the majority of the time you just ride in the nature. After leaving Masbourg, the col alternates between forest and firm grazed heathland. Because the road is so wide - and I don't think it is for the traffic because I just didn't see it - it doesn't seem that steep, but you could be wrong. In the middle, the gradients decrease and in the part between the trees you can be tempted to speed up a bit, but actually the toughest part is still to come. As StijnL says below, that last wall in the right-hand bend with heather on the left is a serious pick if you've just given it your all.
Prachtige klim op een breed wegdek met uitstekend asfalt waarbij je het grootste gedeelte gewoon in de natuur rijdt. Na het verlaten van Masbourg loopt de col afwisselend door stukjes bos en langs stevige begraste heides. Omdat de weg zo breed is - en dat lijkt me niet meteen voor het verkeer want dat ben ik gewoon niet tegengekomen - lijkt het niet zo stijl, maar daarin kan je je vergissen. In het midden zwakken de stijgingspercentages af en in het stuk tussen de bomen kan je in de verleiding komen om wat tempo te maken, maar eigenlijk moet het zwaarste stuk dan nog komen. Zoals StijnL hieronder zegt, die laatste muur in de bocht naar rechts met heide op links pikt serieus als je net alles hebt gegeven.
Quiet, good tarmac and steep. Thanks to that second one, it's more fun than most typical Ardennes climbs. After raking the first kilometer, there's a bit of redemption until you see another wall looming, which isn't visible until late. That can fill up the legs if you haven't dosed up at the start.
Rustig, goede asfalt en steil. Dankzij dat tweede is hij leuker dan de meeste typische Ardennenklimmen. Na het harken van de eerste kilometer komt er een beetje verlossing tot je weer een muur ziet opdoemen, die pas laat zichtbaar is. Dat kan de benen doen vollopen als je niet gedoseerd hebt in het begin.
