This is a beautiful climb!!! You cycle through canyon. First you cycle away from the river Ardeche and see huge cliffs on your left. Then you turn after and bend back through a tunnel to the river where you have fantastic views.
Early morning is the best time to tackle this climb. You won't then be bothered by buses and cars'with trailers full of canoes's.
Tip is to cycle down the whole gorges. This whole road is about 25km long. At lots of points you have viewpoints over the river. The tarmac is a billiard sheet, just watch out for the stray goats!!! This road goes up and down constantly.
Dit is een prachtige klim!!! Je fiets door canyon heen. Eerst fiets je weg van de rivier de Ardeche en zie je aan je linker kant enorme rotswanden. Daarna draai je na en bocht terug door een tunnel naar de rivier waar je een fantastisch uitzicht hebt.
Vroeg in de ochtend is de beste tijd om deze klim te pakken. Je hebt dan geen last van bussen en auto's met aanhangers vol met kano's.
Tip is om de hele gorges af te fietsen. Deze hele weg is ongeveer 25km lang. Op heel veel punten heb je uitkijkpunten over de rivier. Het asfalt is een biljartlaken, kijk wel uit voor de loslopende geiten!! Deze weg gaat constant op en af.
One word: wonderful! The trip from Vallon Pont-d'Arc and then via this climb all the way along the Ardeche, it is fantastic!

Steep thing, but just long enough to enjoy banging against it. If you are early enough, the crowds (and heat) are not too bad. There are more beautiful climbs in the area, but the view on top is definitely worth it and since it is a through route, it is easy to fit in a round trip.
Steil ding, maar precies lang genoeg om lekker tegenop te knallen. Als je vroeg genoeg bent, valt het met de drukte (en warmte) nog wel mee. Er zijn mooiere beklimmingen in de buurt, maar het uitzicht hier bovenop is zeker de moeite waard en aangezien het een doorgaande route is, is hij makkelijk in te passen in een rondje.
21-07-21: Came from the other side and couldn't resist turning around at the bottom. Short climb but nice and spicy. It is immediately clear what you start with! At the tunnel the steepest part.
21-07-21: Kwam van de andere kant en kon het niet laten onderaan om te draaien. Korte klim maar lekker pittig. Is meteen duidelijk waar je aan begint! Bij de tunnel het steilste stuk.
Very nice climb on the Route des Gorges. Fantastic views, above the climb and all the way up. Several times done in mid-July, not busy in the early morning.
Zeer mooie klim op de Route des Gorges. Fantastische uitzichten, boven de klim en de hele weg verder. Enkele keren gedaan half juli, niet druk in de vroege voormiddag.

Mooie pittige klim. Ik ging echter meer naar klote op de wegen er omheen dan de klim. Heel veel vals plat.

Nice tour: From Vallon Pont-d'Arc via the Serre de Tourre and then on to Saint Martin d'Ardèche, cross over there and via Orgnac l'Aven and La Bastide de Virac back to Vallon.

Leuk rondje: Vanuit Vallon Pont-d'Arc via de Serre de Tourre en dan door naar Saint Martin d'Ardèche, daar oversteken en via Orgnac l'Aven en La Bastide de Virac weer terug naar Vallon.
When you start the climb early in the morning (read: between half past seven and eight) there is even in high season very little traffic.
Wanneer je 's ochtends vroeg aan de beklimming begint (lees: tussen half acht en acht uur) is er zelfs in het hoogseizoen erg weinig verkeer.
Beautiful surroundings at the Gorges d'Ardeche. Pressure on the road with many campers and rather anti-social driving motorcycles. Unexpectedly tough with steep parts where you can really break down. The rest of the road, the next 20 km to Saint Martin d'Ardeche is also tough, actually a sequence of about 20 consecutive short steep climbs with short descents and short false flat stretches. Very irregular and really hard!
Prachtige omgeving bij de Gorges d'Ardeche. Wel druk op de weg met veel campers en nogal asociaal rijdende motoren. Onverwachtse kuitenbijter met fors stijle stukken waar je goed op kapot kunt gaan. De rest van de weg, de volgende 20 km naar Saint Martin d'Ardeche is ook zwaar, eigenlijk een opeenvolging van nog wel 20 achtereenvolgende korte stijle klimmetjes met korte afdalingen en korte stukjes vals plat. Erg onregelmatig en echt pittig!
