The first part of the climb, which leads from Pozzarello to the village of Montevettolini, is smooth and rideable, with gradients ranging between 4％ and 6％. Shortly after passing the road that leads to the splendid Villa Medicea, one is faced with the hardest section of the entire climb, a wall of about 1 km with an average gradient in double figures and a maximum gradient that exceeds 17％. Once past this asperity one encounters a falsopiano at 2％ that continues to the summit. The road winds its way through the typical landscape of the Montalbano hills, consisting mainly of olive groves, has little traffic and the road surface is generally good.
