Pleasant climb that is quite long from Turin. The first dozen kilometres are not too tough. Not actually very pretty either, not ugly either. Just fine. The last six kilometres it gets really nice. The last four also get seriously tough. Raking through the steep curves with also a little bit of rest each time. The lake is a wonderful final destination. Together with the Lys, you have a wonderful and spirited day out.
Nice and pleasant ascent up to Morgone, then the music changes dramatically, you go up a hard slope with very high gradients in some small sections even to 20%, on the other hand there is little traffic and very beautiful views
A pleasant and quiet climb up to Margone, then the music definitely changes and it becomes very challenging, with gradients for long stretches exceeding 12-13%, with peaks of 15-16%. Fortunately, the place is magnificent and there are stretches where you give up and catch your breath. Arrival at the beautiful lake.
I was lucky to climb to the top with the road closed to cars for the winter, but still in "summer" conditions.
A climb to remember, it has it all: length, steepness, views ... truly a fantastic place.
In the summer people told me to be quite popular, perhaps also due to its proximity to Turin.
The last 4 km are very demanding, they will burn your legs, but the arrival at the lake will pay off for everything.
I left the car just outside the town of Lanzo (there are many parking places on the roadside).
Lots of fountains and dining options along the way. The restaurant at the lake is only open in summer.
Done after the Col du Lys. The approach to Margone is a series of flats and climbs, nothing too difficult.
From Margone onwards the situation changes, there are about 500m with climbs over 25% (not signposted here), 6 really hard hairpin bends and a final 200m climb before reaching the lake.
The lake is very nice, the climb is not.
