Beautiful climb with stunning views!!! Climb you can see ahead of you from expected. Good road surface. Definitely must have done once!!!
Prachtige klim met prachtige uitzichten!! Klim zie je vanaf verwacht al voor je opdoemen. Goed wegdek. Moet je zeker een keer gedaan hebben!!

I should point out, though, that at the beginning of August 2024, the road was decent, although not in very good condition (so be careful on the descent), but quite passable.
I'd also strongly advise you not to limit yourself to the laces and to continue all the way to the Col du Chaussy, which is a very pleasant climb (good road) and takes place in very quiet and charming surroundings, while still being quite sporty.
Inutile d'en rajouter sur ces lacets mythiques !
Je précise tout de même que début août 2024, la route est convenable, certes pas en très bon état (attention à la descente donc), mais tout à fait praticable.
Par ailleurs, je conseille vivement de ne pas se limiter aux lacets et de poursuivre jusqu'au col du Chaussy, qui est très agréable à monter (bonne route) et se déroule dans un environnement très calme et très charmant, tout en restant assez sportif.

The heat caught me in the laces and I had to put my feet down to recover... that hadn't happened to me for a long time.
Otherwise, this is a must-do, even if there are a lot of well-known passes.

La chaleur m'a cueillie dans les lacets et j'ai dû poser pieds à terre pour récupérer... ça faisait longtemps que ça ne m'était pas arrivé.
Sinon il faut absolument faire cette curiosité même si il y a beaucoup de cols connus.

This climb is gold and not to be missed. Lots of hairpin bends in a short distance. Nice views as you climb and ride actually quite fine.
Deze beklimming is goud en mag je niet missen. Heel veel haarspeldbochten op een korte afstand. Mooi uitzicht als je klimt en rijdt eigenlijk best prima.

I found this climb fairly easy on the hairpins you could launch yourself well and for the rest you could maintain your pace well
Ik vond deze klim redelijk makkelijk op de haarspeldbochten kon je je goed lanceren en voor de rest kon je je tempo goed onderhouden
Very nice climb, nice short on bends and above all very beautiful. For hairpin lovers, this is the perfect climb with no fewer than 19 hairpins in 3.5 km. Road is fine, not fantastic but no really big potholes or gravel
Erg leuke klim, lekker kort op beuken en vooral erg mooi. Voor de liefhebbers van haarspeldbochten is dit de perfecte klim met maar liefst 19 haarspeldbochten in 3,5 km. Weg is prima, niet fantastisch maar geen echt grote kuilen of grind
Climbed it 4 times, first in training in May 2022 during my personal preparation course in the Haute Montagne, then this year in the Trilogie de Maurienne race, with the mobs from the St Michel de Maurienne Festival to accompany us, sometimes in a boring way as the guys stalled in the middle of the pack. But otherwise a nice climb that continues with the interminable Chaussy or the Col du Ventour that we took before the descent to the valley to reach the bump of St Léger des Mélèzes. A must-do for me, especially as it's accessible, unlike its neighbour opposite at Le Glandon via St Etienne, where even I, an Auvergnat and therefore having grown up in the least flat region of France, have a hard time.
Grimpait à 4 reprises, d'abord à l'entrainement en mai 2022 lors de mon stage prépa perso en Haute Montagne, puis cette année à la Trilogie de Maurienne en course, avec les mobs du Festival de St Michel de Maurienne pour nous accompagnés de manière parfois chiante car les mecs calent au milieu du peloton. Mais sinon ascension sympa qui se prolonge par l'interminable Chaussy ou bien par le Col du Ventour que nous prenions avant la descente vers la Vallée pour aller rejoindre la bosse de St Léger des Mélèzes. A faire pour moi, surtout accessible contrairement à son voisin d'en face au Glandon par St Etienne où même moi Auvergnat donc ayant grandi dans la région la moins plate de France, je galère.
Beautiful climb. Unfortunately it is little known and signposted, but for those who like hairpin bends it is the best.

Whether you cycle up the Lacets alone to Montvernier or as a prelude to the Col du Chaussy doesn't matter.
This unique feat of road construction with 18 hairpin bends, stacked one on top of the other and closely following each other, is a must-see. The winding course of the route and the panoramic view of the valley make you barely feel the 8％ average ascent.

Of je nu alleen de Lacets op fietst tot Montvernier of als voorspel naar de Col du Chaussy maakt niet uit.
Dit unieke staaltje van wegenconstructie met 18 haarspeldbochten,op elkaar gestapeld en kort op elkaar volgend,moet je gefietst hebben. Het kronkelend verloop van de route en het panoramisch zicht op de vallei zorgen ervoor dat je de 8％ gemiddelde stijging amper voelt.

A classic of the Maurienne, even if the slope is rather rough and sustained, the climb is not very difficult thanks to the many hairpin bends that allow you to pick up your pace and breathe.
The Tour de France passed through here but the road was forbidden, even to spectators.
There is a video of this climb filmed by a drone, on Youtube I think.
Un classique de la Maurienne, même si la pente est assez rude et soutenue l'ascension n'est pas très difficile grâce aux très nombreux lacets qui permettent de relancer l'allure et de souffler.
Le Tour de France y est passé mais la route était interdite, même aux spectateurs.
Il existe une vidéo de cette montée filmée par un drone, sur Youtube je crois.
Spectacular climb, not particularly hard but unique, for the hairpin bends so close together. The only flaw, the big road to reach it, not beautiful and very busy.

Salita spettacolare, non particolarmente dura ma unica, per i tornanti così ravvicinati. Unica pecca, lo stradone per raggiungerla, non bello e molto trafficato

Safe and with less traffic to the foot of the Lacets:
> from St Jean de Maurienne: out cycling towards autostrade,
continue to 2 roundabout (with large bike)
exit signposted A43 Lyon/Pontamafrey/Zone industrielle
of course do NOT cycle onto motorway but keep right on Route des Contamines
always straight on until foot Lacets.
> from La Chambre : cycle out towards the foot of the Col du Glandon
turn left onto D74 direction St.Marie de Cuines/Pontamafrey
always straight on with at the end 2 short tunnels going under motorway and expressway
and you are at the foot of the Lacets

A great serpentine road just for bikes. A real must!! The climb is rather short compared to the other mountain giants in the area and relatively easy to ride.
Eine tolle Serpentinenstraße nur für Fahrräder. Ein echtes Muss!! Der Anstieg ist im Vergleich zu den anderen Bergriesen in der Umgebung eher kurz und relativ leicht zu fahren.
By far the best climb I've done! The hairpins follow each other in rapid succession, so you quickly gain height. The views are beautiful, especially if you look down over the edge every now and then and see the amazing pattern below you! Be sure to turn left to the Col du Chaussy when you reach the top of Montvernier!
Verreweg de leukste klim die ik heb gedaan! De haarspeldbochten volgen elkaar in rap tempo op, waardoor je snel hoogte maakt. Het uitzicht is prachtig, zeker als je af en toen over het randje naar beneden kijkt en het geweldige patroon onder je ziet! Sla vooral links af naar de Col du Chaussy, als je boven in Montvernier bent!
This climb is an absolute must. Not so much by the climb itself which is doable, but by the road which is glued to the rocks. Many consecutive hairpin bends. magnificent views into the valley.
Deze klim is een absolute must. Niet zozeer door de klim zelf die goed te doen is, maar door de weg die tegen de rotsen is aangeplakt. Vele opvolgende haarspeldbochten. schitterend uitzicht de vallei in.
If you're in the area, this is definitely a climb you should take in! The best I've ever done. The hairpins follow each other at breakneck speed. It is the predecessor of the Col de Chaussy, a somewhat longer climb, but if you have little time, a trip to and from the Lacets alone is worth it. Big smile guaranteed! The climb is about 3.5 km long and not too steep. The road is carved into a wall of stone. Absolutely a must!

Als je in de buurt bent, is dit absoluut een klim die je mee moet pakken! De leukste die ik ooit heb gedaan. In razend tempo volgen de haarspelden elkaar op. Het is de voorloper van de Col de Chaussy, een wat langere klim, maar bij weinig tijd is een heen en weertje op de Lacets alleen al de moeite waard. Big smile guaranteed! De klim is ongeveer 3,5 kilometer lang en niet al te steil. De weg is uitgehouwen in een muur van steen. Absoluut een aanrader!

3 days we were only in the region. After fighting the Galibier (and mostly myself) the first day, I really didn't want to pass up this iconic climb. Because I had little time to spare (still recovering from the Galibier, but especially the rest of the family who wanted to go out), I decided to just do a loop of this climb that descends from Montvernier via Hermillon and then goes along the river l'Arc back to the start. Less than an hour, but very nice to see the hairpin bends in all their glory. If you have more time, you can of course take the Col du Chaussy.
3 dagen waren we slechts in de regio. Nadat ik de eerste dag de Galibier (en vooral mezelf) had bestreden, wou ik deze iconische klim echt niet laten liggen. Doordat ik weinig tijd kon voorzien (nog herstellend van de Galibier, maar vooral de rest van het gezin dat er op uit wou trekken), besloot ik om gewoon een loop te doen van deze klim die bovenaan Montvernier via Hermillon terug afdaalt en lans de rivier l'Arc terug naar de start ging. Minder dan een uurtje dus, maar wel heel erg mooi om de haarspeldbochten te zien in al hun glorie. Indien meer tijd, neem je er uiteraard de Col du Chaussy bij.
