A very nice climb, if the gears are adapted to such high percentages. Lots of percentage changes. It's a climb where you don't get bored, very changeable landscape. There are still 300 m of road in poor condition.

August 2018 departing from the touristy Allos cycled up the climb to the mountain lake of the same name.
After the exit of the main road (Colmar-Col d'Allos), the narrow road with hardly any traffic immediately goes up steeply via some hairpin bends so that in the panorama the departure town and the valley of the Verdon river sink deeply.
After passing some lonely villages (St.Brigitte/Villard Bas/Villard Haut) one climbs into the forest and afterwards one takes a serious dive down to a toll point (paying for cars) to effectively enter the National Park of Mercantour. This you must pay with a beastly steep end with a series of hairpins with double digit percentages. The end of the climb is a disappointment because the road stops at a parking lot in the middle of the pine forest without a trace of the lake. (Still 45 min.hikking !!!!)

It's a pity because two days earlier I could have used my hiking boots and my backpack, starting from a different point, to admire one of the biggest and highest natural mountain lakes of Europe.
Combination of cycling and hiking holiday has its advantages!
Climb to lac d'Allos is thus a solid sporting challenge with a disappointing conclusion!
