This hidden dead-end climb starts when, on the way to the Cormet de Roselend (from Bourg St.Maurice) about 6 km. before the summit, you leave the route on the right towards Les Chapieux. Such a pretty valley, with very little traffic (only shuttle busses are allowed here), don't miss out

Add this climb to the Roseland. Well worth the extra. Beautiful and quiet. Lots of hikers but little else.

Definitely worthwhile because of the views. Adding to Patrick's very useful experience: this profile in terms of gradients needs an update. Yes there were stretches of 4%, but the 10-14% stretches predominated. Steep. Quiet. Unspoilt nature.

Steil. Rustig. Ongerepte natuur.

This hidden dead-end climb starts when, on the way to the Cormet de Roselend (from Bourg St.Maurice) about 6 km. before the summit, you leave the route on the right towards Les Chapieux.
When cycling into this tiny village (provisioning), a barrier and traffic signs bar all motorised traffic.
As this is also a stage site of the "hiking" world-famous multi-day Tour du Mont Blanc, hikers are numerous here in summer as opposed to a rather rare cyclist.
On the left bank of a gurgling mountain river, the narrow rough tarmac track with sporadic metal water drains winds uphill via gentle curves, between rocks, and over wooden tributary bridges.
As a cyclist, I was escorted twice by whistling marmots that took flight before me on the tarmac.
La"Ville" des Glaciers , which you cycle through after a short descent, consists, contrary to what the name suggests, only of a goat farm and some stables. The route continues to climb for a while before changing to gravel after the 2 only hairpin bends past the Refuge du Rocher.
You finish amid panoramic views of the natural end of the valley formed by the snow-capped 3000+ peaks and glaciers around the Aiguilles des Glaciers, the southern part of the great Mont Blanc massif.

As a mountain and cycling enthusiast, this pure nature route was a breathtaking delirium!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
