Done on May 20, 2021: At least 10 years after my first climb, I did it for Climbfinder with nice pictures and a fresh commentary.
The start of this climb is located on the D129 between Ugine and Albertville, then you have to take the D103 in the direction of Marthod ( Rte du Chef-Lieu ) , it starts to climb severely just after the level crossing, the crossing of Marthod offers a short respite as a long portion follows in slopes around 9 %
From the 4th km the road winds between farms and Alpine pastures, the slope is less harsh, which allows you to admire the sublime landscape ( The Beaufortain massif and the Col de La Forclaz de Queige, the Mont Charvin Massif des Aravis and the Col de L'Arpettaz and also the summit of the Mont Blanc ), the shaded areas are very rare and in the middle of the summer it's better to climb before the big heat.
At the 7th km, you have to turn right towards the Alpettaz fort, there are still about 3Km to go, the slope rises immediately to more than 12 %, the road is narrow and winding, the asphalt is not always in good condition, it's really very steep in places, I found passages at 12-13 and even up to over 14 %
The last 300 meters are not tarred and it is impossible to get into a dancer, the terminus leads to a parking lot allowing access to the fort of Alpettaz and also to the circuit of the Dent de Cons.
It is better to be equipped with a GPS with the course because the roads are numerous.
Good road and prudence
