A long, beautiful and versatile climb from Valkenburg. The first part is not right: the road is forbidden for cyclists and you have to take the cycle path east of it. You can also skip it if you come from somewhere else because it only really starts climbing from the traffic circle. After the (quite impressive by NL standards) viaduct, the bike path becomes a bicycle lane and it immediately goes uphill. Then it goes through a beautiful valley until you go up along the farm a little steeper. A short descent and then you can start. Not super steep but already with 1.5 km climbing road in the legs you will feel it. Yet you have enough air left to enjoy the beautiful landscape. In the built-up area it is quickly over. Nice climb with varying percentages on excellent asphalt. Recommended.
Een lange, mooie en veelzijdige klim vanuit Valkenburg. Het eerste stukje klopt niet: de weg is verboden voor fietsers en je moet over het fietspad ten oosten er van. Kan je ook overslaan als je elders vandaan komt want pas vanaf de rotonde gaat het echt klimmen. Na het (best imposante voor NL-begrippen) viaduct wordt het fietspad een fietsstrook en gaat het meteen even omhoog. Daarna vals plat door een fraai dal tot je iets steiler langs de boerderij omhoog gaat. Even een afdalinkje en dan mag je aan de bak. Niet supersteil maar al met 1,5 km klimmende weg in de benen ga je deze wel voelen. Toch hou je nog genoeg lucht over om te genieten van het mooie landschap. In de bebouwde kom is het dan snel over. Fraaie klim met wisselende percentages over uitstekend asfalt. Aanrader.
The long run up to the 'real' climb requires more energy than you would like and you notice that in the last half kilometer. And to make matters worse, the piece of false flat towards the big farm is a piece of cake. There it is often raking, especially when you have the wind against you. The surroundings are beautiful.
De lange aanloop naar de 'echte' klim vraagt meer energie dan je lief is en dat merk je in de laatste halve kilometer. En tot overmaat van ramp loopt het stuk vals plat richting de grote boerderij voor geen meter. Daar is het vaak harken, vooral als je de wind tegen hebt. De omgeving is prachtig.
The climb actually starts when you turn left into the forest. Short climb, but the Stoepert is less easy than it looks. The last part until you see the sign Haasdal is very steep.
De klim begint eigenlijk pas wanneer je linksaf "het bos" inslaat. Korte klim, maar de Stoepert is minder makkelijk dan het lijkt. Het laatste stukje totdat je het bord haasdal ziet is nog venijnig steil.
