Actually wanted to do the climb from Waldkirch, but it is currently closed (see above). This climb actually starts gradually uphill from the junction with the 294 (road) with very gentle percentages though. As long as you cycle on the L112 it is quite busy, after you leave it near St Peter it becomes a lot quieter. In this second part, though, the road surface is a lot less good. The climb itself is not extremely hard but does give you the feeling of a real col, with a winding road, some hairpins and a real finish.

A long but challenging climb up to the Kandel. Basically, the route starts in Denzlingen with a slight incline, giving you some time to warm up. The route is moderately busy as far as St. Peter, beyond which there is basically no traffic. There are some side bays where you can take a break. I found it difficult to find a steady rhythm. In particular, the stitch behind the St. Peter junction and the last 4 kilometres are tough, but here you ride in the shade of the forest slopes. I found the surface perfectly fine. A thin, dark layer has been applied in patches, especially in the upper section, but it is easy to ride on.

Nice climb but you need some power in your legs to get to the top...the view at the top is your reward for the hard work.
