Although the Goldberg is Hagen's local mountain, conquering the Kaiser-Friedrich-Turm further to the west at an altitude of almost 400 metres is the real challenge in the central city area. You can also start the climb from Eugen-Richter-Straße and save yourself the first few steep metres, but in any case the start is a foretaste of the rest. You have to make it to the entrance to the forest first, then there is some time to catch your breath. The second part is incredibly demanding and challenging with 10-12% throughout. You have to keep at it until it gradually flattens out shortly after the junction to the Deerth Clinic. The route runs mainly through dense forest, with only a few views out, and the surface is quite battered in places. There is a restaurant at the top and you can visit the tower to reward yourself with a view over Hagen.
