The really steep bottom section of Knapp Lane is now in extraordinary poor condition. It is a steep-sided holloway and water has sluiced away much of the surface. Very difficult to ride up. Quiet, but if a car is coming down it is so narrow that you will have to dismount and scramble up the bank (as I discovered!) Where the gradient eases, instead of going on to Hyde Hill as shown here, you can switch back on a smaller lane, where after a minor dip you have some more steep stuff into Minchinhampton. Views there are none.
