Korte maar stevige klim die meteen als een muur voor je opdoemt. Vanaf de eerste meters is het vol aan de bak, met weinig ruimte om te recupereren. De rechte lijn en de stevige percentages maken dit een echte krachtinspanning, zeker omdat het na de eerste muur nog even doorloopt. Een pittig en karaktervol klimmetje in het Pays des Collines.

Heel steil ding - wegdek is maar matig, dus zo deze zeker niet afdalen - bij het klimmen is dit geen probleem. Je kijkt recht voor je uit en ziet een echte muur verschijnen. Opgelet: je bent er nog niet na dit stuk. Rechts achter de hoek loopt het ook nog stevig door. Zeker in combinatie met les Plachettes echt lastig.
Nice climb to do. Is quite steep because it goes straight. The road is narrow but the tarmac is ok. There is not necessarily a wide view but the scenery is still beautiful. I like to include this one in a ride.
Leuke klim om te doen. Is vrij steil doordat het rechtdoor gaat. De weg is smal maar het asfalt is ok. Er is niet per se een weids uitzicht maar de omgeving is toch mooi. Ik neem deze graag op in een rit.

Short but steep, steepest 100 meters at 14.2％ is correct but in the faint turn you go a lot above, really raking a few meters. Rough road surface and little view. When you get to the main road you can immediately turn left and continue to Bois de la Houppe.
Kort maar pittig, steilste 100 meter aan 14,2％ klopt maar in de flauwe bocht ga je er nog een stuk boven, echt enkele meters harken. Ruw wegdek en weinig uitzicht. Als je op de grote weg komt kan je onmiddellijk links af slaan en doorstomen naar Bois de la Houppe.
If you want to do something else than the classic climbs in the Flemish Ardennes, I advise you to do a loop through the Pays des Collines where you can successively do Bois de la Houppe, Hurdumont and Les Plachettes. These 3 climbs are all within a handkerchief from each other, so not much time to recuperate!
Personally, I found the Hurdumont the toughest: the climb is actually 1 steep part where you can't hide behind anything and you just have to trudge up until the top. The quality of the road surface is moderate, but you can be glad that there is no cobblestone here!
Wie eens iets anders wil dan de klassieke beklimmingen in de Vlaamse Ardennen raad ik aan om eens een lus te doen door het Pays des Collines waar je opeenvolgend Bois de la Houppe, Hurdumont en Les Plachettes kan doen. Deze 3 beklimmingen liggen allemaal op een zakdoek van elkaar, dus weinig tijd om te recupereren!
De Hurdumont vond ik persoonlijk de zwaarste: de beklimming is eigenlijk 1 steil stuk waar je je nergens achter kan verschuilen en gewoon moet doorbuffelen tot je boven bent. De kwaliteit van het wegdek is matig, maar je mag al lang blij zijn dat hier geen kasseien liggen!
