The approach route is along Oude Kleefsebaan but you hardly notice the slope. That changes when you take the small road to the right via a hairpin bend, because it immediately goes uphill and then it gets even steeper. Slightly winding, you go up via a nice hollow road. At the edge of the forest it soon flattens out and the meadows offer nice views.
De aanrijdroute gaat over de Oude Kleefsebaan maar van die helling merk je amper wat. Dat verandert als je via een haarspeldbocht het kleine weggetje naar rechts pakt want daar gaat het meteen flink omhoog en verderop wordt het nog steiler. Licht slingerend ga je via een mooie holle weg omhoog. Bij de bosrand vlakt het snel af en bieden de weilanden leuk uitzicht.
Most people know the steep part of the Hohldorn as a descent in the combination Vogelsang-Hohldorn-Oude Kleefsebaan. You can also climb this pimple in the woods, but then perhaps rather from the descent of the Old Kleefsebaan (from the northwest) than from the climb of the Old Kleefsebaan from the east. It is already a strange tight corner to take with bad road surface and gravel/sand and you have little visibility on descending cyclists in that corner.
Despite the poor road surface, it's a nice steep peak to blast up on the big blade and power. Once at the top and out of the woods a nice view of the surrounding landscape unfolds.
Het steile stuk Hohldorn kennen de meeste mensen als afdaling in de combinatie Vogelsang-Hohldorn-Oude Kleefsebaan. Je kunt deze puist in het bos ook beklimmen, maar dan misschien liever vanuit de afdaling van de Oude Kleefsebaan (vanuit het noordwesten dus) dan vanuit de klim van de Oude Kleefsebaan vanuit het oosten. Het is al een raar loeischerp bochtje om te nemen met slecht wegdek en grind/zand en je hebt weinig zicht op dalende fietsers in die hoek.
Ondanks het matige wegdek is het een lekkere steile piek om op het grote blad en op de macht omhoog te knallen. Ben je eenmaal boven en uit het bos dan ontvouwt zich een mooi uitzicht op het omringende landschap.
