The first few metres aren't really that much fun, the tarmac is chipped and a bit narrow in places, but the climb becomes more and more positive as you continue. The hairpin bend surrounded by stands of spruce and small camp huts has something atmospheric about it. The overall ascent has many undulations, but none of them are excessively steep. Later on, you cycle between open, undulating fields and the surface gets better and better. Halfway up, you take a sharp right turn and have to sprint straight away for the next wave, after which you can catch your breath again. The last section takes you over the ridge and back into the forest, which is quite a stretch, but also really fun. The many different waves, always with single-digit gradients, the changing surroundings - it's just perfect. Challenging, but also rewarding!
