Nice running climb from Mesch in the direction of Moerslag/St. Geertruid. The first 700 metres are the hardest after that the climb flattens out. Tip: do not include this slope in a route in the 2nd weekend of September due to large crowds around the annual Limburg Landmarket in/around Mesch.
Leuke lopende klim vanuit Mesch in de richting Moerslag/St. Geertruid. De eerste 700 meter zijn het zwaarst daarna vlakt de klim af. Tip: neem deze helling in het 2e weekend van september niet op in een route i.v.m. grote drukte rond de jaarlijkse Limburgse Landmarkt in/rond Mesch.
Nice climb to reach the South Limburg hills from the Basse-Meuse. It is a good warm-up, without too many gradients. The road is in good condition with a view on the landscape of the Meuse valley between Lanaye and Eijsden.
Belle montée pour accéder aux côtes du Sud-Limbourg depuis la Basse-Meuse. Constitue un bel échauffement, sans trop gros pourcentages. Route en bel état avec vue sur le paysage de la vallée de la Meuse entre Lanaye et Eijsden.
A nice climb up to an observation tower, which adds extra cachet. It starts as a tough runner on a straight road, then the nice hairpin curve (view to the left) after which the slope slowly decreases. After the highest point you're not there yet, just a short descent and then a slight climb again to the watchtower. Excellent tarmac and a quiet road. The climb is only in a remote corner and is difficult to include in a route while it is worth it.
Een leuke klim naar een uitkijktoren, wat nog extra cachet geeft. Het begint als een pittige loper over een rechte weg, daarna de lekkere haarspeldbocht (uitzicht naar links) waarna de helling langzaam afneemt. Na het hoogste punt ben je er nog niet, even een afdaling en daarna weer licht klimmen tot de uitkijktoren. Uitstekend asfalt en een rustige weg. De klim ligt alleen in een uithoek en is lastig in een route op te nemen terwijl die dat toch wel waard is.
Nice climb in an area where you can avoid the crowds on the 'famous'climbs in the hills of southern Limburg. Runs nicely and the hairpin gives the climb something extra's. The road surface is okay and from the watchtower you can accelerate over a fantastic road surface to Moerslag. The foot of the climb is in Mesch, the first Dutch village to be liberated by the Americans in 1944.
Mooie klim in een gebied waar je de drukte op de 'beroemde' beklimmingen in de Zuid Limburgse heuvels kunt ontlopen. Loopt lekker en de haarspeldbocht geeft de klim iets extra's. Het wegdek is oké en vanaf de uitkijktoren kan je over een fantastisch wegdek gas geven tot Moerslag. De voet van de klim ligt in Mesch, het eerste Nederlandse dorp dat in 1944 door de Amerikanen werd bevrijd.
Nice climb with a hairpin in the steepest part. Then it becomes false flat.
At the top the view is worthwhile.
Leuke klim met een haarspeldbocht in het steilste stuk. Daarna wordt het vals plat.
Boven is het uitzicht de moeite waard.
Fine average climb, very evenly up to cycling. Plus point is that after the climb you descend towards moerslag on a super paved road.
Fijne gemiddelde klim, heel gelijkmatig omhoog te fietsen. Pluspunt is dat je na de klim afdaalt richting moerslag op een super geasfalteerde weg.
Nice even climb with a small part steep which is good to do. Nice if you cycle around eisden and gronsveld.

If you come back from the Belgian hills in the direction of Maastricht, this one is nice to take with you. There is a watchtower on the highest point from where you can overlook the whole valley towards Belgium.
Just start in the beginning and then the road goes on.
Rather unknown part because most people think you have to cycle in the direction of Vaals and around Valkenburg.
Als je uit het Belgische heuvelland terug komt richting Maastricht is deze wel leuk om nog even mee te nemen. Er staat een uitkijktoren op het hoogste punt waarvan je over het hele dal richting Belgie kunt uitkijken.
Even aanzetten in het begin en dan loopt de weg lekker verder.
Redelijk onbekend stukje daar de meesten richting Vaals en rondom Valkenburg denken dat je moet fietsen.
This climb is a relief when you have left the Land of Herve behind. Just as steep at the bottom, then you need to have the strength to change gears and then you can go fast on this one. If you don't have the strength anymore (like me), then the part between 500-1000 meters is still difficult and time consuming.
Deze klim is een verademing als je het Land van Herve achter de rug is. Evengoed onderaan even steil, daarna moet je de kracht nog hebben om op te schakelen en dan kun je hier goed hard op knallen. Als je die kracht niet meer hebt (zoals ik dus), dan is het stuk tussen 500-1000 meter toch nog lastig en tijdrovend.
The first few hundred meters make sure you are nice and warm after which the rest of the climb is a piece of cake. Good road surface and quiet surroundings.
De eerste paar honderd meter zorgen dat je het lekker warm hebt waarna de rest van de klim een eitje is. Prima wegdek en rustige omgeving.
