This is not a very long climb, but how steep it is! The percentages on very short sections go up to 30%, almost unbearable. Anyway, the hills in the Lake District are tough, the roads often choose the shortest way up... Road surface fine, very narrow though so if you meet a car in one of those hairpins with 30% it does become difficult to navigate. Beautiful scenery with a view of England's highest mountain at the top, weather permitting... The other side is more familiar and heavier/longer, but this short side is also worthwhile in combination with Wrynose. Have climbed this col in a round trip through the Lake District with several such gut-busters.
