Just like the climb up the Haarberg via the Kreuzstrasse, this climb can also compete with the toughest calves climbs in South Limburg, the only difference being that the toughest part is largely through a residential area. The first part where you cycle against a red apartment building and then right around it is still relaxed. As soon as you enter the Birkenweg, it goes steeply uphill and that only gets worse further down the road. Only the crossing road gives a lower percentage (although it keeps rising). In the bend it becomes a little flatter but then it turns left and climbs steeply again until the T-junction (straight ahead is a small Jewish cemetery). Turn right twice for the last part - which is still steep uphill - to the cross at the top. In the last part and on the top you have beautiful views. You can see the red apartment building far in the depth.
A beautiful and difficult climb, although I liked the one via Kreuzstrasse better (no apartment buildings in the beginning).
