This is a very attractive, picturesque little hill with a sunken path and a steep stretch at the end, giving access to the vast, green Terlanen plateau. The road is fairly narrow and not very busy.

After the summit, where there is a large farmhouse that was once occupied by the Germans during the Second World War (explanatory signs), the Grotstraat continues as a gravel track in good condition, generally on a rising gradient, until it reaches the junction between the Nijvelsebaan and the Bollestraat.

At the foot of the Bollestraat is the beautiful shrine to Our Lady of Lourdes, after whom the street is named.
