Had the chance to climb the Morterone while being around the area. I started the climb from Lecco up to Ballabio from where the Morterone/Forcella di Olino climb officialy starts. Very nice but.... For the poorly maintained asphalt, you can't give it a 5. I thought you could enjoy the hairpin bends more, but they don't appear as clear as on the col de braus, for example... They are partly hidden by vegetation. Especially the view of the mountains and the lake are the most beautiful thing

Quite a long but not too challenging climb, the scenery alone is worth it!

Always rideable climb and never hard, traffic only exists until Ballabio. Rough asphalt but without holes, some short tunnels. There are no water sources, and the road is constantly in the sun. Good to link up after or before the climb to the Resinelli

Beautiful climb in the middle of nowhere. You have to struggle through traffic going up from Lecco to Ballabio, but then you are practically on your own. The climb does not have excessive gradients. PS: do not stop at the cantoniera house indicated by some sites as the arrival point. Continue to the restaurant for a good meal. If you have a mountain bike or gravel bike, you can continue, otherwise you have to turn back.

Five Star Climb - the gradients are steady and not too steep, the views and vistas are amazing, the warm sun is on the route much of the time, and the road surface is mixed with much of it grainy asphalt in a B- condition. The Trattoria Cacciatori serves an amazing lunch!

A stupendous climb at the start of the Valsassina, actually you start from Lecco with the demanding Lecco-Ballabio, then you turn right and enter into an enchantment... no traffic, bearable and regular gradients, lots of hairpin bends and top scenery! After the summit, you can continue on to Morterone, the least inhabited municipality in Italy. If you are in the area, it is not to be missed!

I warmly suggest it if you are around. You will not be disappointed.
