This is a superb climb but if you fancy just a bit more start it from the A496 / B4391 junction south of Blaenau Ffestiniog. This adds in the Allt Goch climb (1.61km / 151m av.9.0%) and makes the full climb to Ffynnon Eidda 9.6km / 460m Cat.2. I did it returning from the Stwlan Dam climb and once through Llan Ffestiniog there is a great view across the valley to the dam. Higher up the climb you are on the edge of the ravine of the Afon Cynfal before the route opens out onto the remote upland of the Migneint. Magnificent changing scenery throughout. This is the only route up to Ffynnon Eidda where the road is twin carriageway. The three climbs up to Ffynnon Eidda are quite contrasting - do them all. I started at Ysbyty Ifan and added in the Swlan Dam climb for a fantastic day's climbing. Nice coffee break in the cafe at the foot of the Stwlan climb too.
