Our campsite was halfway up, just where the climb flattens out, so I had to climb this one willy-nilly. The first part involves a perfectly convex two-lane road at percentages I know in Belgium only from narrow country roads. That makes you always have to be alert for traffic behind with the accelerator pedal pressed to the max, but fortunately this is not an overly busy thoroughfare. In the Ardennes, this would be a five-star climb just for the percentages and hairpin turns, but in Austria, this is at most a solid warm-up for so many nicer and tougher challenges in the area. Those who nevertheless want to make this climb a bit more challenging, turn sharp left after kilometre 4 towards Urbar. There you will be presented with steeper percentages, but the road is a dead end. Those following the regular road will reach the top in Embach, a dumbed-down village with a handful of eateries for the hungry.
