What a cracker this is. Never too steep, topping out at about 12%. But it is pretty steady. You'll have to lift your bike over the gate. But then it's traffic free. Don't forget to do the climb to the surge pond as well!

I started the climb in Tregarth but it's the final section up the dam road (after the gate) that really scores - traffic free apart from, maybe, an occasional service vehicle. Tarmac throughout BUT watch the cattle grids(s) on the descent as they have a raised concrete lip. On the climb, at around 1 km from the gate, there is a junction to the right up to the surge pond - another stunning climb which actually finishes 11 m higher (654m) than the climb to the dam. Stunning views on both climbs.
