This climb has it all. Around 14 kilometres long with a gradient of 8.2%. A total of 1119 metres in altitude are covered here. Not much traffic. But it drags towards the end. It can also get wet here. You often come out of the clouds just before the end and have great weather again.
The road has recently been completely resurfaced! Really fantastic!
Dieser Anstieg hat es in sich. Etwa 14 Kilometer lang mit einer Steigung von 8,2%. Insgesamt werden hier 1119 hm bewältigt. Wenig Verkehr.
Wirklich Traumhaft!
I started in Santa Cruz and then you first start with La Cuesta, 5.5-6km at 6% with lots of hairpins, nice to get into it and occasionally nice views back to Santa Cruz and the sea. Then you ride flat for a few kilometres through some villages oa San Pedro. After 10 km the real climb then starts to Refugio El Pilar, at the turnoff of the LP 301. Here it is another 13.5 km to the summit at about 8%. This makes it a bit like the Alpe d'Huez of La Palma. The climb is divided into 3.5 km fairly easy, some 6'n 6-7%, then 1 km with flatter sections and steep sections even up to 15%, then 7.5 km consistently heavy between 8-12% and the last 1.5 km it flattens a bit to 6-7%. At the summit there isn't really much, a little further after the summit is the recreational zone El Pilar. But I recommend driving on to Mirador del llano del jable or back to Mirador Llano del las Ventas, where you get the best views.
