I very much recommend going here by ferry from Tenerife for one day. This climb has a quite unique vibe to it- first you ride on wide roads often alone with impressive views of the island and Tenerife. Then, slowly the area around you gets greener and greener and you enter another world. I also recommend going all the way up to the highest point on La Gomera, the Alto de Garajonay.
