We took the ferry over from Tenerife to have a go at this climb. La Gomera is a cyclist's heaven. The views back to Teide were tremendous, even lower down. As we ascended through rock spires, the climate changed to a misty, humid biome. We had just entered a living fossil, the sub-tropical Laurel forest. Speeding through the ancient forest on perfect tarmac at 1400m was a highlight of my cycling journey. A core memory forever locked in. ... read more

I very much recommend going here by ferry from Tenerife for one day. This climb has a quite unique vibe to it- first you ride on wide roads often alone with impressive views of the island and Tenerife. Then, slowly the area around you gets greener and greener and you enter another world. I also recommend going all the way up to the highest point on La Gomera, the Alto de Garajonay.
