Nice tough climb to one of Bavaria's most beautiful lakes. Climb starts quietly in the village of Grainau, but the gradient climbs quickly after that. Fortunately, the climb is not too long and at the end you are treated to great views over the lake. Near the lake is also the valley station of the Zugspitzbahn, which lets you take a steep cable car to Germany's highest point in one go. Halfway up the climb, you cycle a section parallel to the rack and pinion train from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, so you might automatically be given extra incentive to keep cycling.
