Just outside Merano, the climb starts when cycling into the slightly higher town of Schenna/Scena.
After turning off from the main street, you immediately fall firmly out of the village centre before ending up between apple orchards on the sunny mountainside. After cycling past the Taser cable car valley station, you definitively stay with double ％ digits higher and higher, following the mountain flank parallel along alpine meadows and through coniferous forest.
Hairpin turns ensure that the panoramic view of the valley and the snow-capped peaks on the opposite side are now on your right.
At Schnugger alm (1353 hm.),ignore the left turn for Taser, for the last 4 km. on narrow road in deplorable condition via hairpin turns still steeply uphill.
End point is sobering as the tarmac dead ends in the yard of a farm where, judging by their reaction, cyclists are rare.
Tough climbing challenge,colour CF graph and average say it all.
Would still opt for the almost identically similar Taser alm route (see CF) for much nicer endpoint with food and drink and much better road in the lock.
Even buiten Merano, start de klim bij het binnenfietsen van het iets hoger gelegen Schenna/Scena.
Na het afslaan van de hoofdstraat valt men direct met de deur in huis stevig de dorpskern uit om nadien tussen de appelboomgaarden op de zonnige bergflank terecht te komen. Na voorbijfietsen van de Taser kabelbaan dal station blijf je definitief met dubbele ％ cijfers steeds hogerop lang de bergflank evenwijdig volgen langs alpenweiden en door naaldwoud.
Haarspeldbocht zorgt ervoor dat het panoramisch zicht op het dal en de besneeuwde bergtoppen aan de overzijde zich nu aan je rechterzijde bevinden.
Ter hoogte van Schnugger alm (1353 hm.),negeer je de linker afslag voor Taser, voor de laatste 4 km. op smalle weg in erbarmelijk slechte staat via haarspeldbochten nog steeds steil omhoog.
Eindpunt is ontnuchterend want het asfalt loop dood op het erf van een boerderij waar aan de reactie te zien fietsers zeldzaam zijn.
Stevige klimuitdaging, kleur CF grafiek en gemiddeld stijgingspercentage zeggen genoeg.
Zou toch kiezen voor de bijna identiek gelijklopende Taser alm route (zie CF) voor veel mooier eindpunt met eet en drinkgelegenheid en veel betere weg in het slot.
