One of the beautiful unknown(er) climbs in the Eastern Mining Region. Approaching from Haanrade on the Grensweg and from Herzogenrath on the Eygelshovener Strasse, you enter the Kloosterlindenweg, which soon becomes a cycle path. Especially the first part it goes up steeply. Then it flattens out for a while. From the point where you ride along the garden wall of Rolduck Abbey, the gradient goes up again for a while before ending as false flat towards the abbey car park.
Eén van de mooie onbekende(re) klimmetjes in de Oostelijke Mijnstreek. Vanaf Haanrade aanrijdend over de Grensweg en vanuit Herzogenrath over de Eygelshovener Strasse ga je de Kloosterlindenweg op dat al vlot een fietspad wordt. Vooral het eerste deel loopt het steil omhoog. Vervolgens vlakt het even af. Vanaf punt waar je langs de tuinmuur van abdij Rolduck komt te rijden gaat het stijgingspercentage weer even omhoog om vervolgens richting de parkeerplaats van de abdij als vals plat te eindigen.
Steep climb through a forest, with reasonable tarmac. The beginning in particular is a challenge, but the small hill in the middle section of the climb is also strenuous. In the steep part, you may slip off the back wheel when you get out of the saddle due to the gradient and the dirty tarmac.
Steiler Anstieg durch einen Wald, mit angemessenem Aspahlt. Besonders der Anfang ist eine Herausforderung, aber auch der kleine Hügel im Mittelteil des Anstiegs ist anstrengend. Im steilen Teil kann es dazu kommen, dass man mit dem Hinterrad auf Grund der Steigung und des verschmutzten Aspahlts wegrutscht, wenn man aus dem Sattel geht.
Nice climb that starts along a meadow with nice views. Then you turn left into the forest and it goes immediately steep upwards. Really tough but that doesn't last long. The rest of the climb is a lot more relaxed with views of the abbey and the vineyard. The path itself is also nice.
Leuke klim die begint langs een weiland met leuk uitzicht. Daarna ga je linksaf het bos in en gaat het meteen loeisteil omhoog. Echt pittig maar dat duurt niet lang. De rest van de klim is dan weer een stuk relaxter met uitzicht op de abdij en de wijngaard. Het pad zelf is ook leuk.
Through the forest, so in the shade. Good road surface. At the top you can visit the abbey Rolduc.
Door het bos, dus in de schaduw. Goed wegdek. Boven aangekomen kan je de abdij Rolduc bezichtigen.
